On Saturday 25 June, the first A.S.A. training meeting in the Reggio Emilia area, organised by the A.S.D. Cooperatori and the Federazione Ciclistica Italiana, was held in the Casina civic hall kindly made available by the municipality of the same name. The training of these figures will, in fact, be fundamental during the Granfondo Matildica of 17th July, along with all the help from the volunteers, for the smooth running of the competition.
The A.S.A.’s, are the subjects assigned to the performance of the functions of the dismounted personnel on escort duty during road cycling races, in accordance with the provisions of the Technical Escort Regulations and relevant Ministerial Circulars issued, with the aim of regulating the circulation of vehicles crossing the race course and the vehicles and competitors taking part in the race itself.
Several associations participated in the training course such as: Protezione Civile Casina, Protezione Civile Vezzano sul Crostolo, Canossa Volunteer Group, the Alpine soldiers discharged from Castelnovo ne’ Monti, the Terre Matildiche Association (Quattro Castella) and the Val D’Enza Radio Communications; the 29 participants underwent the 8-hour course and successfully passed the final test for the awarding of the title and with the recognition by the Traffic Police. The course lecturer was Roberto Rossi, trainer of the Italian Cycling Federation and international race director, while the president of the scrutinising commission was Roberto Camorani.
The course programme is designed to provide the appropriate role models, to give the necessary skills to safely operate in the assigned position.
The next appointment for the course has been set for next 9 th July, again at the Casina Civic Hall, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with a lunch break scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m.).
